YATE shoppers have voted for a supermarket grant to go towards a holiday scheme for children with learning disabilities and autism.
The Brandon Trust has been awarded £4,000 from Tesco’s Bags of Help community grant scheme.
The money will go towards its Playlink project, which provides holiday respite service for children with learning disabilities and autism in South Gloucestershire.
Bags of Help sees grants raised from the sale of carrier bags awarded to thousands of community projects every year.
Voting ran in stores throughout November and December, with customers choosing which project they would like to get the top award using a token given to them at the check-out.
Shoppers across three Tesco Stores in Yate voted to award the highest amount to Brandon’s Playlink scheme.
The money will be used for a series of trips for young people, including visits to the theatre, adventure parks, and the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio Tour in London.
Caron Hale from Playlink said: “We’re so pleased to have won the Tesco Bags of Help top award, and the £4,000 will go a long way to ensuring that these trips will be amazing experiences that children will treasure for ever.”
Since launching in 2015, Bags of Help has awarded more than £36 million across more than 7,900 projects.
Funding is available to community groups and charities looking to fund projects that benefit the community.
Anyone can nominate a project and organisations can apply online.
