AN ORGANIC flower grower based in Latteridge launched a major crowdfunding project this week.

Organic Blooms – a social enterprise working with adults with support needs – offers online bouquet sales for delivery or click-and-collect, wedding flowers, sympathy flowers and a range of horticultural and floristry courses.

Founder and director Jo Wright would like to grow the business, so it can produce more flowers, and offer more work placements.

And she has chosen crowdfunding as a way for the community to support their plans.

To the uninitiated, crowdfunding is a way of raising finance from a large number of people, who each contribute a relatively small amount, typically via the internet.

“We launched the campaign on Wednesday, to raise the money we need to expand into a second field.

“We’re aiming to raise £30,000, to fund a multi span polytunnel, workshop and toilets.

“Doing this will enable us to expand our flower-growing operations and offer more training placements for people with long term mental health conditions and learning differences.

“We’re putting together lovely rewards for pledges ranging from £10 right up to £2,500.

“There is substantial evidence of the therapeutic benefits of horticulture and we make sure our four-acre Organic Blooms site is a therapeutic as well as a working environment.”
