FOR the first time in 25 years a clear view of the magnificent chapel window will greet visitors to Woodchester Mansion.
A quarter of a century ago scaffolding was erected inside the chapel of the unfinished Mansion near Stroud to protect it until restoration.
But the intrusive metal poles, netting and wooden platforms blocked sightseers’ views of the chapel’s stunning rose window.
Now, new and far more sympathetic scaffold has been put in place to greatly enhance tourists’ appreciation of the secretive Grade One listed building.
Woodchester Mansion re-opens for its new season on Good Friday, March 30 and will also be open on Easter Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.
It will then be open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays every week until the end of October.
Because it was never completed Woodchester Mansion, which is operated by a charitable trust, offers a glimpse of the stonemason’s craft that is unique in the world.
