UP TO 600 people headed to Yate's Kingsgate Park for the annual Easter egg hunt on bank holiday Monday.

Despite the cold, damp weather, parents and children alike had a great time hunting for clues around the award-winning park in order to receive one of the 500 Easter eggs given out by Yate Town councillors and the Friends of Kingsgate Park. The few left over eggs have been donated to the food bank and youth club.

The entrants for the Easter bonnet competition were of a very high standard and the judges found it very difficult to decide who had created the most innovative Easter Bonnet.

Esme Court won first prize, in a white rabbit mask creation, and the two runners up were Maisie Ballard, who had a giant Easter chick balancing on top of her hat, and Joshua Dunn, whose hat was embellished with dangling crafted paper carrots.

Yate councillor and Yate deputy mayor Karl Tomasin presented the prizes to the winners of the Easter Bonnet competition.

Judith Cameron, secretary of the Friends of Kingsgate Park said: It was a brilliant day.

"Nearly 40 entries for the Easter bonnet competition is a record.

"They were all lovely and I think it was a hard decision for deputy mayor Karl Tomasin to decide who the winners were.

Yate Town Council and the Friends of Kingsgate Park are now making preparations for community music festival, Yate Rocks, set to take place in Kingsgate Park on June 23 and 24.
