HUNDREDS of people came together in Yate to mark St George’s Day last weekend.
The country’s patron saint was celebrated on Saturday, with an array of traditional English entertainment including Morris dancers, a brass band, medieval demonstrations and a parade featuring St George himself.
The event, on St Mary’s Green outside Yate Heritage Centre, was supported by neighbouring St Mary’s Church and the White Lion pub.

Community heritage officer and organiser David Hardill said: “We had a fantastic day on Saturday, with 1,677 visitors coming along to join us.
“There was nice weather, most of the time, apart from rain in the middle.
"There was a really nice balance of traditional English entertainment, good community entertainment and educational history, including medieval food, an armourer from Berkeley, archery, and St George himself."
