A THREAT to The Pulse, Subscription Rooms and Stratford Park looms over the Stroud valleys as underfunding has led to an “extremely uncertain” future.

Councillors at Stroud District Council are set to debate how they can prevent falling short of the set budget for council-run services.

If the district council can’t meet its general fund budget in the future, the authority will be forced to lower the amount it can spend.

Money from business rates and a significant level of income from leisure centre The Pulse has managed to close the surplus in the general fund budget.

The Pulse, in Dursley, managed to gain £270,000 profit last year.

Additionally it's hoped that the proposed transfer of the Subscription Rooms to the town council could safeguard the future of the historic entertainment centre.

But a report released ahead of a strategy and resources committee outlines that “there are still significant unfunded budget pressure facing the general fund in 2018/19, and the level of funding the council will have beyond 2019/20 is extremely uncertain”.

Members of the committee will decide whether to transfer the amount of money untouched to specific reserves.

Last year community services was underspent by £510,000, housing £62,000, and environment £151,000.

The strategy and resources committee will meet on May 24 at 7pm.
