THE history of some of the older houses in Yate and Chipping Sodbury is being explored in an exhibition at Yate Heritage Centre.

Visitors to the show can discover the background and history of the buildings they see day to day and find out more about the families that made up that history.

The Fitzgibbon family, pictured here, are registered as living at Yate Cottage from 1987.

Yate Cottage is a three storey building on Station Road, between Church Road and Goose Green Way, which was the Willow Nursing Home from the early 1990s until 2018.

Although described as a cottage, it was a large middle class home.

The youngest child in the photograph, Brian Fitzgibbon, later fought in the First World War and died in action in France in August 1916.

Pictured here, Vayre House in Chipping Sodbury, now The Stables Restaurant, also used to be known as the “Fairy” House.

The Houses Through Time exhibition is at Yate Heritage Centre until June 25.
