THE DEATH of a mother and her daughter continue to be investigated by police officers after they died following an incident in Gloucester in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Police attended an address in Dexter Way in the city at 4.50am after the ambulance service reported that two people had been seriously injured.

A 31-year-old woman who has been named as Laura Mortimer, and her 11-year-old daughter Ella were declared dead at the scene a short time after emergency services attended.

Ella was found seriously injured with her mother yesterday morning, sadly they both died soon afterwards.

Family members and the coroner have been informed.

A 28-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of the murder of the woman and the girl and he is still being questioned by officers.

Cordons remain in place at the address and the nearby boating lake in Westgate Park while the investigation is ongoing.

Forensic enquiries will be continue throughout today and post mortem examinations are due to take place in the coming days.

The family of the victims has asked for privacy at this time.

Officers have thanked the local community for their patience and assistance yesterday and have said that multi-agency meetings will be held over the coming days, with the aim of providing support to the communities, particularly young people.
