A GREAT British Bake-Off spin is set to be one of the highlights of a popular country event in Berkeley this summer.

The Berkeley Show is a long-standing, annual celebration of all that is great in the Berkeley Vale and the surrounding countryside between the Cotswold escarpment and the River Severn, and 2018 will be the 115th show.

This year, the show, which will take place on Sunday, June 24 at Castle Meadow, Berkeley with gates open at 9am, will host its very own Great Berkeley Bake Off, an event that proved so popular last year, it’s returning for 2018.

With three Bake-Off categories to enter, in this popular spin-off from the Channel 4 TV series, show-goers can download an entry form on the Berkeley show website, then bring along their bakes on the day to have a chance at winning, with all this taking place alongside the production of the Berkeley Pie – a huge, hot-water pastry venison pie made by the Berkeley show team on the day.

In addition to the mouth-watering food, the show will also have a beer and cider celebration tent, livestock show ring, a horse display, a bigger and better dog show with a huge variety of classes to enter on the day, plus a horticultural and handicraft section with an opportunity to enter a variety of competitions, including flower arranging, baking and homemade crafts.

Other activities include a designated children’s section giving them the chance to demonstrate their skills, plus the launch of an inter-schools competition where each school designs and builds a decorated wheel barrow.

Jenny Grey of the Berkeley Show said: “We continue to build on last year’s success with more activities and stands joining the village green area.

“Berkeley show is an affordable, fun and educational day out for all the family – and there’s a 20 per cent discount on advanced ticket sales.”
