CHILDREN at Blue Coat Primary have teamed up with master builders to create a giant adventure play sculpture at the school in Wotton.
More than 150 children and adults from the school community came together on Saturday for “The Big Build.
Work alongside children’s playground specialists Woodland Tribe and, armed with hammers, saws, nails and a health dollop of imagination and enthusiasm, the group created a unique play ark from scrap.
The SS Great Blue Banana, the final name after getting several through the building process, has many features including a gang plank, ship’s wheel, anchors, cannons, furniture and even a ship’s dog.
The project was supported by a Tesco Bags of Help grant, with the school receiving £1,000.
“It was really inspiring to see it take shape and evolve as new ideas were added throughout the day,” said Rachel Murray, play coordinator at Blue Coat Primary.
“The event had a wonderful atmosphere of relaxed creativity thanks to the experienced support of Woodland Tribe, the team of volunteers and, of course, all the participants who tried something new.
“Everyone helped each other out, shared tools and worked together in the same space safely and respectfully.”
She added: “We want to add a really big thank you to the Bags of Help appeal and to everyone who backed us. It is a real community effort and we are thrilled that people got behind our campaign.”
