CROWDS flocked to a Medieval Fayre in Winterbourne on Sunday to spend a day immersed in the 14th Century.
Visitors of all ages enjoyed the event, which was held in Winterbourne’s Medieval Barn.
Louise Harrison, from the trustees, said: "We started off with a cloudy day, but the sun broke through soon after visitors arrived and we had a glorious time from then on.
"It all started with the medieval soldiers 'training' with their bill-hooks - a pole-arm weapon used in the middle ages - accompanied by a beat from a little drummer boy.
"They then invited visitors to join in and learn to use a bill-hook. Some of them very quickly slotted in and looked quite war-like.
"The softer side of medieval life then came out with a Hambrook Broom Dance and a talk about medieval make-up and cosmetics.
"And then some crime and punishment with a re-enactment of a medieval manorial court, the firing of the medieval cannon, which was very loud, and battling knights."
Throughout the day there were demonstrations of medieval cooking, spinning, coin-making, weaponry and carpentry, a display of hawks and owls, provided by RaptorCare, plus live music from Bygonz Minstrels and The Barrelscrapers.

"It was a really lovely day of heritage entertainment from the Company of Chivalry and others," Ms Harrison said.
