Thornbury Camera Club

This was the final meeting of the year prior to the summer break. It was an opportunity to round up the activities of the year and to announce the overall winners of our competitions held through the year.

First, however, as a final invitation to show off their work, members were invited to submit one image on the general theme of “The City Up Close”. The club arranged for these images to be printed so that we could look at and handle prints rather than look at projections.

A wide range of interpretations were produced with 24 members rising to the challenge.

Graffiti featured in several images, as did food and restaurants. As might be expected from past meetings, images from round the world were in evidence. Japan, Germany, Cyprus and the USA all featured. There was even a surprise entry from closer to home – an image of St Mary’s Centre in Thornbury. What is more, this image of Thornbury was taken on a phone!

Turning to the annual competitions, the final winners for the year were:

In the Print Class, Robert England came first with George Collett and Edward Kilmartin in second and third places respectively. In the Beginner’s Projected Class, Tracy Whitehead was in first place with David Whitehead and Christine Crabb following close behind. Finally, in the Advanced Projected Class, first place went to Dean Packer with George Collett second, and Ken Pearce in third place.

The evening concluded with a buffet supper.
