GROUPS of people have been working in Brinsham Park to help sow bee and butterfly friendly seeds.
The Friends of Brinsham Park , the 1st Yate Beavers led by Liza Wilby and Yate Town Council all participated. Whilst Councillor Mike Drew and Mayor of Yate John Ford also helped at the event.
Tesco’s Bags of Help scheme provided large funding for the event, where two large areas were specially seeded to commemorate the centenary of WW1.
Yate Town Council and Friends of Brinsham Park have said they will continue the project, and are looking to plant different seeds and some shrubs designed to sustain the bee, butterfly and bird population in the park.
The Friends group is hoping that the planting of plants and seeds will help improve some of the wildlife in the park, with member Sam McDonald excited at the “much needed colour” the project will bring in the future.
Sam went on to explain just how vital the support from Tesco has been for the project. He said "Without the award from Tesco this could not have been possible. The council have great difficulty in raising government funds for the park.
"The friends group try to off-set this by raising funds from private sources like Tesco. They have been a great help."
