MEMBERS of Thornbury Guild met in Turnberrrie's for the June meeting and the speaker for the evening was Janice Jackson.

Her talk was entitled “Someone Else’s Bible”, which she brought with her – a very heavy book weighing over a stone and containing many non-religious black and white photographs of plants, maps, implements and plans.

Janice inherited this Bible from her aunt and uncle who had lived in Pembrokeshire but she realised that the information of births, marriages and deaths contained in the Bible did not relate to her own family.

After an enormous amount of research covering different parts of the country, she was able to put together three fascinating stories about the daughters of the family mentioned in the Bible, which she related to the audience with great skill.

It was interesting to learn the history of how they were all connected and how the Bible eventually came to rest with her own family.

Ros Smith thanked Mrs Jackson for a very interesting insight into somebody else’s family back in the 19th Century and complimented her on her extensive research.

There will be a fund raising coffee morning on July 15, a visit to the Aerospace Museum also in July and members were encouraged to support the guild in the carnival procession on July 7.

Next month’s meeting is on July 11 when Philip Taubenheim will talk about The Antiques Road Show. The competition is for a small collectable.
