Southmead hospital, on the day of the NHS' 70th birthday offered cakes, coffees, and promote different charities. There was also some beautiful live music played by Ros Hewitt on the piano at the event.

Tony Moore-Lynch was one of the many people that were willing to talk about the fantastic work that the NHS does. The 73 year old was at the hospital promoting Prostate Cancer Care Appeal, that helps people with the same problems he had.

“3 years ago I was operated on here at Southmead because they found a tumour on my prostate” he said

“I was in and out within a day, but the support the NHS gave me at home was incredible. I can’t thank this amazing service enough.

“As far as I’m concerned they saved my life. I will be eternally grateful to absolutely everyone. We have a lot of different fundraiser events coming up and it would be good to try and protect the future of the NHS as long as we can.”

Tony was joined at the event by over 30 members of staff at the hospital and volunteers. One of the main organisers of the event was Adrian Brown. He worked tirelessly to promote the event for Southmead Hospital Charity.

“Today on our cake stalls we are promoting five different divisions of the hospital, it is great to be raising money for their own departments” he said.

“It is really important all come together and recognise the amazing work that the NHS does. It is a good excuse to have everyone all in one place eating and drinking some delicious food.

“We exist as a charity and a service because people want to say thank you. The advances in medical technology are something that we as a charity are really trying to support. We are currently trying to improve the ways in which equipment for surgery is updated.

“We love cake here at the charity, obviously not in excess but every Wednesday we look to invite people to take part in ‘Bakewell Wednesday’ which will help to raise more money for the charity. But here today alone we will look to raise over £1000 which all goes straight to the hospital.”
