A BEAUTIFUL estate near Thornbury will host its first cider festival this year, whilst also welcoming a performance by popular band The Wurzels.

Old Down Estate, in Tockington, has organised the event which will take place on Saturday 14 July and play host to over 500 guests.

The event will be the first of its kind to be hosted at the house, with organiser Teresa Dadey expressing her 'excitement' ahead of the festival.

"We are really excited, we haven't ever done it before so it's definitely going to be a challenge." She said.

"Having said that we are looking forward to welcoming the Wurzels to the area and we know that people are going to love them.

"There are so many things happening at the event, we have a whole host of different plans for the day.

"There will be a Battle of the Bands where we will see loads of groups from the area going head to head for £500. The audience will each get a voting slip so they will be deciding who wins that.

"There will also be the opportunity for people to see a cook off with TV presenter Sherrie Eugene-Hart. There will be a chance for people to taste some of Old Down's own ciders along with over 10 different brands.

"The festival will then be closed by the Wurzels, so I'm sure that the people attending will have a really good time."

Teresa also moved to clarify that the football will be shown at the event in the evening for those who want to watch England take on Belgium in the third place play off World Cup Match.

"We have set up an outdoor barn where the football will be shown. The weather will be amazing so we are really hoping that everyone comes down to the event during the day."

The event starts at 3pm with the Battle of the Bands starting at 3.30pm. The other events during the day will take place accordingly with the Wurzels starting their performance at 8pm.

Tickets for the event are £25 for adults and £15 for children, you can get tickets at olddownestate.digitickets.co.uk/category/13493.

It is not the only event that is happening at the estate, with the Classic Car and Bike Festival taking place on Monday 16th September.
