A-LEVEL PHOTOGRAPHY students at Chipping Sodbury School have exhibited their work in a professional competition.

The event, which is sponsored by The Rotary Club of Chipping Sodbury, allows students to have their work examine and apprised by professional photographers.

Eight students, from the Cotswold Edge Sixth Form submitted their entries in the competition for final judgement. Their work was reviewed by two professionals and two Rotarians.

Casting an eye over the work this year was international photographic judge Betty Billingham, popular commercial photographer in the area Rich McD, Richard Little and Doug Lodge.

Each student presented their work and were able to give some explanation to the judges regarding why they had decided to submit their specific photographs.

Ellen Bush's picture of 'Burning Flowers' won first place in the competition.

After much deliberation the judges finally came to a verdict and selected Ellen Bush's picture of burning flowers as the winner, second place went to Matt Bailey for his picture of melting ice. Whilst Beth Goodchild and Owen Ladip also received notable mentions for their work from the panel. The competition was fiercely contested, with Rich McD himself admitting the 'quality was brilliant.'

"I have judged similar competitions previously but the standard this year was higher than ever," he said.

"The students had the opportunity to talk about their work helping the judges understand why each photograph had been presented."
