POLICE are warning residents in Uley about a suspicious man going door to door trying to sell items.

The force said it has received two reports of a man who has been calling at houses and offering items for sale.

A resident in Shadwell, Uley reported a man called at her home on Friday, August 11 and offered to sell her items from a large backpack.

He then produced a yellow card, which the woman believed to be a form of ID, but it was not clear.

She declined buying any items and the man went away.

And on Thursday, August 10, at around 9.10pm, a man called at a house on Fiery Lane, Uley, also trying to sell items.

The householder said the man looked in through one of the windows before knocking on the door.

They said they were not interested and told him to go away.

And then on Friday, August 11, at around 7.30pm, the same man knocked at the same house again.

After seeming taken aback when a different family member answered the front door, the man explained that he was currently on a work scheme.

He was told the family were not interested in buying anything and then he left and headed towards the Green.

The man was described as being in his 20s, with fair hair, around 6ft tall, of a thin build and possibly spoke with a northern accent.

He was wearing a grey hoodie, tracksuit bottoms and flip-flops.

Residents are advised not to challenge door step sellers and to report any suspicious activity.

Anyone with further information about these incidents is asked to call 101, quoting references 253 11/08/2018 and 383 11/08/2018.
