Green-fingered residents put their produce on display at Thornbury Horticultural Society's Summer Flower Show.

There were 62 exhibitors making over 330 entries in a variety of categories.

The sections for vegetables, fruit and flowers were all won by Dot Culverhouse. In Floral Art the main winner was 19-year-old Julie Sparkes with Sandra Grey winning the trophy for her entries of Preserves.

Jenny Jones had the most points in cookery and her Women's Institute Falfield won back the Challenge Trophy.

Vice Chairman Ruth Kitson said: "Exhibitors struggled to find vegetables and flowers fit to show because of the prolonged heatwave and, although the entry numbers were down, the Judges still had some quality exhibits in front of them, all credit to the growers."

The Handicraft Section was won by Zoe Hardman, beating Emma Shepherd by just one point whilst Sheridan Rendall had the winning photographs. Jenny Ovens topped the class for a wildlife photo and for four war memorials.

In the children's sections 4-year-old Victoria Burgess had a clean sweep while twins Lizzie and Beccy Latham were the winners in the older group.

During the afternoon Chairman Rex Davis made a presentation to Jeanette Harris who, with her husband Don, are retiring from the Committee after nearly 40 years.

"Their dedication over all this time has been much appreciated and they will be very much missed," added Ruth.

All the trophies were presented at the close of the show by President Rita Freed.
