WOTTON’S new BMX track officially opened for action last weekend.

The Wotton Community Sports Foundation BMX track was launched on Saturday, at Wotton Community Parc, in a family friendly event that included a free jam and competitions throughout the day.

Rose Stevenson, who raised £1,200 for the track by running the London marathon last year, cut the red ribbon and declared the park's newest amenity well and truly open.

Jude Rugman, a trustee of the Wotton Community Sports Foundation, said: “The atmosphere the whole day was one of fun.”

“Bristol specialists, Crucial BMX came to support us during the day by bringing their race team riders to show us how it was done.

“Matt Palmer from LTD Bikes came down to support us for the opening day too and offered bike servicing for anyone involved. There were a few punctures and a few ‘mechanicals’ and Matt was on hand to sort them out.”

Wotton Community Sports Foundation raised a staggering £20,000 in donations to fund the building of the track.

“It felt amazing to finally see the track being officially opened,” added Jude.

“I actually felt quite emotional about it - seeing the children and families all enjoying it and having fun.

“I love to see children playing outside, there is too much to keep them inside these days, with computer games, video technology etc.

“To me there is nothing better than the great outdoors and to see everyone enjoying themselves on Saturday was just so gratifying and made the hard work of fundraising all worthwhile.”
