HUNDREDS of canine lovers visited a Thornbury park last weekend to watch a dog show.

Eleven different competitions were held at the family dog show at Old Down Country Park on Saturday, August 18.

Contests ranged from loveliest lady, waggiest tail and most looks like owner.

Each competition had a different judge and rosettes were handed out for the top three dogs in each category

As well as the dog show there were a number of other events taking place at the park.

There was a birds of prey experience and a chance to meet Old Down's other animals.

A number of stalls were selling dog treats including ice cream and there was also a bouncy castle.

DJs played a variety of dog-themed music throughout the day.

Maisie, a black Labrador, won best in show as well as scooping the award for 'golden oldie'.

She belongs to Lottie and Will Woodall but was brought to the show by their friend Kate Warren.

Kate, who attended the show with her husband Stuart and daughters Mia and Freya, said Old Down Country Park was 'one of our favourite places'.

Speaking after Maisie picked up the award for 'golden oldie' Kate said: "We just thought it would be fun, we never expected to win."

In reference to Maisie's achievements Kate added: "She didn't expect to be going home with a rosette did she? She's in the best shape I've ever seen her."

This was the Warren's first time looking after Maisie but they have regularly walked her for the last couple of years.

Kate's family have recently decided to get a black labrador puppy of their own.

Organiser Teresa Dadey said: "The dog show  was a great success with over 100 entries and we hope it will be the first of many.   It was lovely to see so many dog owners as we’re a year-round dog-friendly park."
