One third of students at a Bristol school achieved straight A*/A grades, in their recent A-levels. The top grades made up half of all results awarded at Queen Elizabeth's Hospital school, Berkeley Place.

Two thirds of students studying a STEM subject (further maths, maths, biology, chemistry, physics) achieved the top A*/A grades, while 95 per cent of Modern Foreign Language students achieved A*- B grades.

Stephen Holliday, Headmaster at QEH, said: “Once again, and in a year in which we say goodbye to our last all-male cohort of students, we are celebrating an excellent set of exam results.

"Our co-educational Sixth Form is an exciting and vibrant place to be, but there is also an expectation of hard work and it is fantastic to see this pay off for our students.”

A number of students will be taking up places at university.

Sebastian M’Caw, who achieved A* grades in chemistry, maths, further maths and advanced physics, will be studying at Emmanuel College, Cambridge.

Toby Speirs was similarly successful in biology, chemistry, maths and Spanish. and will be studying medicine at Queens’ College, Cambridge.

Felix Dowidar-Jackson also celebrated straight A* grades in maths, further maths and advanced physics and will be going to Leeds University to study mechanical engineering.
