A choir group from Yate took part in the BBC 'Proms in the Park' at Hyde Park earlier this month.

Yate Rock Choir joined forces with a number of other rock groups to perform in a flash mob at the event.

Six coaches from the South West region travelled to London to take part in the mob, amongst them was the 30 members of Yate Rock Choir.

BBC's 'Proms in the park' is broadcast live on BBC Radio 2 and on the red button on tv, and viewers were shocked when over 10,000 choir members popped up from the crowd to sing along with Caroline Redman-Lusher who was performing 'Dancing in the Street' on the main stage.

Yate Rock Choir member Julia Alden was part of the flash mob, and said the whole event was 'great fun'.

"Watching the faces of those around us when the flash mob started was hilarious," she said.

"I think they were quite alarmed when thousands of people started stripping off at the same time, but they soon cottoned on and joined in by clapping and cheering us.

"It was such an amazing day, a privilege to take part in and to support our leader Alex Hawker who was up on the stage.

"We finished the evening in time honoured tradition with flag waving to Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory, with a choir of 10,000 you can only imagine the volume."

Yate Rock Choir meets on Wednesday mornings at Yate Parish Hall on Station Road. Taster sessions are free and there are no auditions!
