Three Alveston men have completed a 10km outdoor swim to raise money for a cancer charity.

Dan Hiscock, Alex Hathway and James Curtis completed the Dart 10k on Saturday, September 15.

They swam from Totnes to Dittisham down the River Dart in Devon in memory of Chris Hathway, Alex's brother and a friend to Dan and James.

The three men, who all went to Marlwood School, completed the swim in two and a half hours.

Alex claimed he had done no exercise for six years before training for the challenge.

"The training was quite a therapeutic way to reflect on my brother's life," he said.

Alex described the swim as 'physically and emotionally draining'.

"It just seemed endless but we were determined to do it.

"Every stroke we thought of Chris," he added.

Chris would have been 40 today (September 21), with Dan and James also set to turn 40 in the next 12 months.

James came up with the idea of raising £40,000 in the same year they all reach the milestone and a number of other charity events are being planned including a golf day, family Day, another swimming event on the Isles of Scilly!

All money raised will go to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity who looked after Chris for 18 months before he passed away in 2016.
