Final preparations have been made for the upcoming Sodbury Players production, ‘ The Audience’.

The popular amateur dramatics group put on three main shows each year, and this autumn the group attempts a show that is very new on the scene.

‘The Audience’ is created by Peter Morgan, and takes place between 1952 and 2015, focussing on Queen Elizabeth II’s private weekly meetings with each of her Prime Ministers.

These meetings have never been recorded and their content is unknown, however in this innovative, modern play, Morgan breaks through the silence and imagines a series of comical and tragic conversations.

Assistant director Lizzie Abbot-Davies revealed that the group are prepared, saying: “We’re all really excited to bring this show to Chipping Sodbury.

“It’s been a fascinating experience for all us, developing performances of such well recognised individuals from Queen Elizabeth II to the Prime Ministers that have served her.”

The group also had to appeal for a special member of the cast, Tula the Corgi.

“We also very thankful to Kevin Egan and Karen Newton from the Welsh Corgi League for their help in finding the lovely Corgi, Tula, It is going to be a fun show.”

Kevin Egan of the WCL also said how pleased he was that Tula could get involved with the show.

“We were delighted to help the Sodbury Players with their production of The Audience by searching amongst our membership for a Welsh Pembroke Corgi to appear with the cast,” he said.

“We quickly got in touch with Karen Newton from Malmesbury, Wiltshire who was able to take part with Tula.”

Tula has acting experience before so should be ready for the show that takes place from September 26-29 at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall.
