A leading writer has spoken to students at a Thornbury school.
Nikesh Shutla met year nine pupils at The Castle School on Thursday, September 20.
Shutla, a columnist for The Observer, and editor of The Good Immigrant spoke about his new novel Run Riot.
Set in a towerblock, it is loosely based on parts of Bristol.
Shulta explained to the students how he wrote about the challenges facing some teenagers in our society.
After a presentation, he was then quizzed by students on the book, his own experiences and the craft of writing stories.
Literacy coordinator Ali Griffiths said: “We were so lucky to have the opportunity to hear from Nikesh first-hand.
"He is a lovely man and a very talented writer, and we could see our students respond so positively to his ability to describe what it can be like to grow up in the UK today.
"I hope even more students will go home tonight inspired to read, and write, even more as a result of his visit”.
