GREAT Western Railway made its biggest timetable changes on the network in over 40 years this week, which included a new early morning service from Cam and Dursley.

David Smith of the Cam and Dursley Transport Group popped along to the station on Monday morning to see the new 6.43am service in action.

“It was great to see the new service and that it was being used,” he said.

"It was 20 minutes late, but the passengers I spoke to weren’t concerned about the delay and were just pleased to be able to get a train at that time.

"The train calls in at Gloucester, Cheltenham, Worcester and Great Malvern, and by changing at Cheltenham you can arrive Birmingham New Street at 8.26am.

"At present the earliest you can get there is 9.45am."

GWR say that the new timetable, launched on Sunday, will provide faster journey times, more seats and more frequent services to key locations.

Changes include a new, super-fast GWR service from Bristol to London, with typical journeys between Cheltenham Spa to London shortened by 10 minutes to two hours.

The number of through trains from London to both Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa has been doubled at off-peak times.
