Berkeley Green parkrun officially started on Saturday, with a famous face coming home in first position.

Adam ‘Tango’ Holland (below), the Guinness World Record was invited to the parkrun by the core team for the inaugural event and he set a time that may never be beaten of 16:01.

The run was originally dreamt up by resident Ian Cole (top right), and he was there on the day to officially start the event for the very first time.

The event takes place at the old power plant in Berkeley, right next to the development area of the car that is attempting to break the World Landspeed record, Bloodhound.

Berkeley Green parkrun core team member James Sage said: “The parkrun family is a very special place full of lots of lovely humans, a few dogs, buggies, cowbells and hi-vis heroes as well.

“We look forward to seeing you back in Berkeley soon!

“It’s about spending time with other people enjoying an endorphin rush and slice of cake and the runners at Berkeley Green were greeted to tables laden with cakes and snacks provided by members of the New Berkeley Harriers running club.

“Thanks to those runners who stepped in and helped move people along the funnel as well

“The core team have taken many useful learnings from the day and let’s watch as they develop and this exciting addition to the community grows.”
