Knitting queen still casting on

A KNITTING enthusiast from Yate is about to sell off her year's work of knitted toys for charity.

Diana Clark, of Kenilworth, has been busy knitting more than a hundred children's toys this year.

And from tomorrow the 66-year-old will start selling them off at local schools and churches for charity.

Mrs Clark told the Gazette she had been knitting toys for more than twenty years.

She said: "What started as a hobby for me has turned into almost a job!

"I make lots of toys each year and sell them off just before Christmas for charity.

"This year I have spent almost every evening knitting and have a rather large collection so big it is filling up the loft.

"It is something I have always enjoyed doing especially when I can raise money for charity doing it."

Mrs Clarke is to sell the toys at Cranleigh Court School tomorrow and Fromebank Junior School the week after. She will also be setting up a stall at coffee mornings at Chipping Sodbury Baptist Church.

Toys she knits include Noddy, Father Christmas and Cinderella.

Money raised is split between many charities including PDSA, Donkey Rescue and NSPCC.

Mrs Clarke is also part of a scheme that visits the town's elderly residents in their homes.
