THE northbound carriageway of the M5 between Thornbury and Stroud has reopened.

This follows a closure earlier today after a driver died in a three-lorry crash on the southbound carriageway close to Michaelwood Services.

The southbound "will be remaining closed for quite some time", said Highways England.

Highways England tweeted: "M5 - J13 Stroud to J14 Thornbury - The southbound closure remains but all congestion at the closure location has now cleared.

"Please still find alternative routes as the road will be remaining closed for quite some time."
