Search for volunteers at speed matching session

FORGET speed dating, Thornbury Volunteer Centre is pioneering speed matching for a fun introduction to local organisations.

The centre is running a volunteer speed matching sessions on Wednesday, June 4 (11am-12.30pm and 1-2.30pm) at Filton Folk Centre, Elm Park, Filton.

People can book a slot and will then be given three minutes with 12 different local organisations who will bid for volunteers' commitment.

Kim Webb, from the volunteer centre, said: "On offer will be information about helping other local people, and about helping in conservation projects.

"Organisations taking part will include those that help people who are young and not so young, people with physical and learning disabilities, people who are homeless, victims of crime or experiencing mental distress, and people in hospitals, hospices and day centres.

"We guarantee there will be something of interest for you - no matter what your interests, passions or time commitments."

She said help would be on hand for anyone not familiar with the idea of speed dating, which the session has been modelled on.

She added: "Taking on a voluntary job is not something to rush. Our event is a fun way of getting people interested.

"We will help you to make your decisions - maybe on the day, or maybe a while later once you have had time to think about it."
