A POPULAR play centre in Yate has closed after losing a hard-fought battle to stay open.

Little Giggles, based in Yate Shopping Centre, closed on Sunday after weeks of uncertainty surrounding its future.

Owner Laurie Coventry released a statement saying: "Sadly we have lost our fight and I can confirm that December 4 was our last day of trading.

"To celebrate some fantastic years we held a day of closing parties, featuring mascot appearances from Elfie as well as Mickey and Mini Mouse.

"It’s been an honour and a privilege to have been a part of so many amazing memories over the years.

"Thank you so much for the love and support from each and every one of you.

"Over the years we have had some fantastic staff members however we finished with an exceptional team with so much talent.

"We cannot thank them enough, each one of them are exceptional.

"We love you all."

Parents and MP Luke Hall had supported a campaign over the last few months to save the centre after its owners announced it was facing closure.

Parents rallied to try and persuade the landlords to let the team stay with over 4,600 people having signed a Change.org petition to save the site that specialises in sensory play that helps children with additional needs and babies.

Mr Hall had backed the campaign saying: “Little Giggles is an excellent local business which is truly valued by the local community and I am supporting them during this period.”

Mum Leanne Cross, who regularly visits the site with her baby Kobi, said: “Its just such a shame, the babies love it here with all the lights and different things.

"I have family that come from all over Bristol and even as far as Stroud to visit.”

Gazette readers have also reacted to the news that the play centre has closed.

Anna Nutt said she was 'so upset'.

Claire Smith said: "I was looking forward to my little boy spending time here as he grows into a toddler. I am gutted."

Sophie Hunt said: "Little Giggles was one of the best soft play centres.

"So sad to know it has gone."
