A THORNBURY couple have lit up their home with just over 30,000 festive bulbs to raise money for two charities.

Kieran and Kim Jefferies decorate their house in Eastland Avenue, Thornbury, every year in aid of causes close to their hearts: Cancer Research UK and Jigsaw Thornbury.

The couple have been putting on the impressive display – which this time includes Santas, reindeer, snowmen, a friendly dragon and the Nativity scene– since 2017.

"It puts everyone in the festive spirit, while raising funds for good causes at the same time,” said Kim.

“We love seeing all the smiling faces on the children.”

“And we love seeing the adults’ faces light up too, as just for a moment they seem to turn back into kids,” said Kieran.

The decorations are lit up every day between the hours of 4.30pm and 9.30pm and visitors are welcome to go into the garden to take photos.

Donations can be made via a QR code or cash, with one hundred per cent of the money shared between the two charities.

The impressive display takes between five and six weeks to put up.

Kieran said due to the recent heavy rainfall, he’d had less time to work on the display this year, and had ended up spending several long evenings up a ladder to make sure it all got all done.

The couple say that all the lights add a small amount to their electricity bill, but “it’s all worth it”.

They also say they have had lots of help and support with their display, including from their neighbours, who have been very supportive.

“We are very thankful to them,” said Kim.

Looking towards the future, Kieran and Kim plan to keep their festive tradition on the calendar.

“There’s many more years of Christmas light displays to come from the Jeffries,” said Kieran.
