THE mayor and deputy mayor of Yate have spoken of their 'delight' after being re-elected in their posts. 

Councillor Cheryl Kirby was delighted and honoured to be re-elected as mayor for a further year at Yate Town Council, with councillor Ben Nutland re-elected as deputy mayor.

Ms Kirby said: “Last year was another extraordinary year, but one, where yet again, the people of Yate came together to support, help and encourage their community.

"All this could not have been achieved without the help and support of our staff and officers at Yate Town Council together with my fellow members." 

Mr Nutland said: “I am delighted to have been re-elected as deputy mayor for Yate.

"We have an amazing new intake of councillors and I am looking forward to working alongside them to deliver the priorities of Yate’s residents.”

A town council spokesperson said that there are many 'exciting activities and events planned for everyone this year in Yate'. 

This includes Yate Rocks which will take place on June 24 and June 25 in Kingsgate Park. 

There will be local acts and bands, dance groups, arts and crafts, inflatables, a range of food and drink and more at the annual event.  

Yate Heritage Centre will also be holding a number of events and exhibitions, such as International Day on September 16.

Yate Ageing Better will also be holding their festival on July 19 in the town centre.

The newly launched Memory Café continues to be open on the first Friday of every month at the Pop Inn Café.

Launched in April, iis a monthly social event for people with dementia and their carer. 

The launch saw the dementia community come together to enjoy refreshments and activities, including crafts and a quiz.

The Memory Café is open every first Friday of the month from 1.30pm until 3pm.
