A MAN has been arrested following the death of a woman in a quiet suburb in Bristol. 

Emergency services were called to an incident in Greystoke Gardens, Southmead shortly before 10.10pm on Tuesday (May 16). 

The 37-year-old woman from Southmead was pronounced dead at the scene.

Avon and Somerset Police say the death is currently being treated as ‘suspicious’.

A man in his fifties of no fixed abode was arrested from the address in connection with the investigation on Tuesday night. 

On Wednesday (May 17), a crime scene was in place as several forensic investigators and Major Crime Investigation Team detectives combed for clues.

A footpath in Greystoke Avenue was cordoned off as dozens of drops of blood were examined and swabbed as part of the investigation.

A force spokesperson said: "The death is currently being treated as suspicious pending the results of a post-mortem examination to establish the cause.

“The woman has yet to be formally identified but is believed to be a 37-year-old from Southmead.

“Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by a specialist family liaison officer at this difficult time. Our thoughts are with them in their loss.

Residents have been warned that they will continue to see an increased police presence in the area while enquiries continue. 

Investigators are keen to hear from anyone who was in the Greystoke Gardens area between Monday evening 15 May and Tuesday night, and is yet to speak with officers, especially those who have dashcam or other footage.
