A MUCH-loved sports club in Dursley is due to celebrate its 50th anniversary year.
Dursley Karate Club, which was founded five decades ago in Summer 1973, is hosting a special reunion event for former members on Wednesday, September 27.
Ex-members from the 1970s, 1980s, and beyond are especially encouraged to attend the celebration.
The event will include a demonstration and refreshments at 8pm at Stinchcombe Village Hall.
Organiser Tim Cale said: “In late August 1973 the Dursley Gazette printed an advert for a new karate club to start in North Nibley village hall. I was just about to join the Gazette as an apprentice.
“In September 2023 the club will celebrate 50 years of training in Dursley, Cam and the surrounding areas.
“The club is the longest surviving Martial Arts club locally.
“We are holding a special celebration event at Stinchcombe Village Hall on Wednesday, September 27th from 8pm.
“The club would like to give an open invitation for any ex students to come along and enjoy the celebration along with film shows, demonstration, refreshments and a friendly social.”
