DRIVERS are advised to plan their journeys around the Severn Bridge half-marathon and 10k event on Sunday, August 27.

The M48 Severn Bridge will be fully closed between 7.30am and 12.30pm on the Sunday to facilitate both runs.

The 10k race crosses the M48 bridge in an easterly direction using the eastbound carriageway, crosses over the M48 at junction 1 and turns back on itself, then exits the M48 at junction 1 and uses the upstream cycle track before finishing at Newhouse Industrial Estate, Chepstow.

The half-marathon completes two circuits of the 10k route plus an additional section to make up the required distance, and while the bridge is closed to traffic clearly signed diversion routes will be in place.

Kathryn Wiltshire, South west network planner for National Highways, said: “We’d like to remind road users to plan ahead, and as well as the bridge closure, local roads are also expected to be a little busier before and after the races.

“Our advice is to check our traffic and travel information channels, set off early and allow a little extra time for your journey.”
