A ROYAL cypher has been installed at a new development near Yate.

The unique symbol has been placed in The Great Oaks estate where 84 homes are currently being built off North Road in Engine Common

The commemorative brick depicts King Charles's cypher, which is the Sovereign’s monogram.

It consists of the initials of the monarch’s name, Charles, and title Rex, which is Latin for King, alongside a representation of the Crown.

The one-of-a-kind item was created in honour of King Charles' coronation last year and was one of only 20 produced by brickmakers Northcot Brick.

Tom Sheppard, Design Director for Newland Homes, who lives near Engine Common, was gifted the unique brick and chose to install it in the entrance wall of Great Oaks.

He said: “It was an honour to receive this special piece of art designed by award-winning ceramic artist Maria Gasparian.

“King Charles has led by example with his efforts to make the royal household greener and to champion many positive environmental changes over his lifetime, so it seemed fitting to place this brick at the entranceway to our latest collection of zero carbon homes which are powered by renewable energy.”

The development in Engine Common also includes three detached bungalows.

It is estimated that the first homes will be ready for occupation later this year.
