PUPILS have been busy creating art to be displayed at a new school in the Thornbury area.

Marlwood School students in Alveston have designed unique pieces of artwork which will eventually be put up at nearby new SEND school Two Bridges Academy.

The new school, which will serve children and young people aged two to 19, is currently under construction next to Marlwood School.

Work started in May last year and is due to open in September with spaces for 112 pupils.

Places will be available for children and young people from nursery to sixth form who have severe, profound, or multiple learning difficulties, or severe learning difficulties and autism.

Design proposals for the artwork were officially unveiled at a public event at Marlwood on Tuesday, March 12.

A spokesperson said: “Since December of last year, sculptor Rob Olins and art teacher Nina Stevenson have been working with a group of students.

“The brief was to design a sculpture for the reception area at Two Bridges Academy, that would be accessible for the new pupils who could have difficulties with sight, hearing or mobility.

“Pupils produced numerous maquettes, samples, and even furniture designs, which were displayed at the event.

“It was an opportunity for the students, their friends and relatives, Marlwood staff and Two Bridges representatives to celebrate the amazing work that the Marlwood students have done.”
