A man has been taken to hospital with a serious leg injury following a machete attack on Teesside yesterday (Thursday, April 19).

Police were alerted to the incident in Shakespeare Avenue, Grangetown, Middlesbrough, at 1.50pm yesterday. 

A 20-year-old man was treated at the scene before he was taken to hospital.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "At approximately 1.50pm on Thursday 18 April a 20-year-old man was attacked near Shakespeare Avenue.

"He sustained a serious injury to his leg, believed to have been caused by a machete and is currently in a stable condition in hospital.

"Inquiries are now underway to identify the attackers and officers are appealing for anyone who has information to get in touch."

Detective Sergeant Holly Angus, from Redcar and Cleveland Police’s CID, added: “We are in the early stages of the investigation and encouraging members of the public to come forward with information that could assist with our enquires.
