GRAFFITI vandals in Frampton Cotterell are being warned to put down their spray cans after a teenager was arrested in the village.

Police have sent a message to youngsters that they will use tough powers to crackdown on vandalism and criminal damage to public buildings and walls.

Acting Sergeant Neil Whyman said: "Anyone caught carrying a spray can could be arrested on suspicion of being equipped to cause criminal damage.

"This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated."

The warning follows the arrest of a 16-year-old boy, from Frampton Cotterell, last Thursday night. Police officers found the teenager with a spray can and a template which they believed he had used to graffiti the public building in Crossbow Park.

The youngster was made to clean off the graffiti under the Restorative Justice Programme.

Anyone with further information on criminal damage in the village is asked to contact police on 0845 456 7000.
