THE public has just over one more week to have their say on plans for a new composting factory in Tormarton.

A consultation into the proposals, which have been submitted to South Gloucestershire Council by waste contractors SITA, closes on Monday, September 8.

Fears were raised over smells from the facility, which would be built at the Highways Agency depot on the A46, and the increase in traffic it could lead to when the application was first lodged in July.

Cllr Sue Hope (Lib Dem, Cotswold Edge) said: "Local people raised lots of concerns and questions at public meetings earlier in the summer.

"It's important that they now make their views known as part of the formal planning process."

SITA officials met with residents to dispel public fears and said it would use only the best technology available to contain smells within the indoor plant.

A final series of exhibitions on the plans take place next week, on Wednesday, September 3 and Thursday, September 4 (both 6.30pm) followed by a parish meeting on the compost plant on the Thursday (7.30pm). Tormarton Parish Council has organised the displays in the parish hall.
