Breast cancer survivors to take part in 'pink plod'

TWO breast cancer survivors are encouraging others to get into their pyjamas and join a pink plod to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Friends Marion Street and Cheryl Downton, both from Dursley, will be joining the Pink PJ Plod in Coleford this Sunday.

The event marks the end of breast cancer awareness month and is also part of Cancer Research UK’s ‘It’s a girl thing’ 2008 breast cancer campaign.

Marion, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and underwent surgery and radiotherapy, said: "Anyone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, or indeed any type of cancer, goes through a huge emotional rollercoaster.

"It’s then that you really appreciate the support of friends and family and that’s why I am walking with my friends.

"I want to encourage people to get together with their friends and family and register for this local walk. It’s in the heart of one of the most beautiful forests in the country, which has over 20 million trees and everyone will be in for great day out and get plenty of exercise too."

To pre-register for the 10k pink plod go to www.forestofdeanrelay.org or call Neil on 01594 845773 for a registration form. You can also register on the day, just turn up at Speech House, Coleford, in time for a 10.30am start.
