A MOTHER from Thornbury is hoping traditional Indian cooking will be the key to success for her new business.
Romy Gill, 36, has recently launched Reenee Catering, an Indian catering company, from her family’s kitchen in Thornbury.
"I do a lot of parties at home with friends and some of them started to say that I should teach or cater for outside parties," said Romy.
The mother-of-two has taken the brave step to launch her own business after a desire to return to work but wanting something that fitted around family life.
So family orientated is the business the name is a combination of Romy’s daughters’ names, Reet, five, and Neev, three.
Reenee Catering offers a variety of services including Indian cooking lessons at the Turnberries Centre and catering for dinner parties.
Romy said: "There is the idea that Indian food is complicated and unhealthy but that isn’t true and doesn’t have to be the case it can actually be really healthy if you use lentils, pulses and chick peas.
"I want to be very flexible and provide a service that suits people. The parties will depend on what people want me to do. I can cook the food here and transport it or I can go to people’s houses and cook for them. I am also taking the cooking lessons to people’s homes if they want. "
Romy is also going into local schools to teach cooking to the Thornbury’s younger residents and next year plans to take part in Thornbury’s Food Fairs selling samples.
She said: "I have already been into my daughter’s school St Mary’s School and will be visiting Castle School next year. It is great to go into the school and teach the children what Indian cooking is about and let them prepare and eat the food.
"For some of the children it was the first time they chopped vegetables and a lot of them said they didn’t like cauliflower or spinach but they all ate it," said Romy.
