CONCORDE is winging its way onto a new series of stamps to be launched in the New Year.

Royal Mail has this week unveiled its special stamp programme for 2009, which will kick of in January with a series of stamps celebrating British Design Classics, featuring Concorde and the vintage red telephone box.

Julietta Edgar, head of Special Stamps at Royal Mail, said: "Special stamps mark unique moments, great anniversaries and vital cultural themes.

"Next year’s programme will take stamps further than before with a unique collection of fascinating images and subjects. For many, stamps are seen as one-inch square works of art, we are confident that the 2009 stamp programme will live up to our customers’ expectations."

Other stamp designs to look forward to in 2009 include, a tribute to the world’s greatest poets, the bicentenary of the birth of Charles Darwin, celebrating Wales, the House of Tudor, endangered plants, mythical creatures, the Fire and Rescue Service, Royal Navy Uniforms and Christmas.
