OLDBURY has been nominated as a preferred site for a new generation nuclear power station.
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), which owns the land, has nominated the site for consideration under the Government's Strategic Siting Assessment (SSA) process.
Under this process the Government hopes to identify sites suitable for new nuclear build.
The NDA would not be responsible for building the new power stations but by including some of its sites in the SSA will mean the company will get better value for spare land it is currently selling.
Matthew Riddle, South Gloucestershire councillor for the Severn Ward, said: "Having lived next door to Oldbury for the best part of 42 years, my overriding concern is to ensure that local residents are involved in the process as early as possible so their views can be sought and this is something I am continually pressing the nuclear companies to do."
