Mother-of-four joins Merlin board

A MOTHER-OF-FOUR has been named a new board member at Merlin Housing Society.

Tenant Carol Solan, 51, was voted onto the body following the first elections to be organised by Merlin.

Mrs Solan, from Marshfield, is one of five residents on the board and will help set the direction of the future of the society, South Gloucestershire’s largest social landlord.

A former customer service assistant who has given up work to be a full-time carer for her husband, she said: "I am looking forward to this new challenge and can’t wait to get started.

"I want to build on the experience of my working life and hope to be able to fine tune Merlin’s customer service."

Merlin Housing Society residents were asked to go to the polls last month and cast their votes for a new tenant representative after Linda Hodder stepped down from her position.

Merlin’s chairman Les Good said: "This was the first time residents had been asked to choose a new board member and I am delighted so many of them decided cast their vote."

Merlin is run by the board of 15 members, including residents, South Gloucestershire councillors and independent panellists.

The society is committed to spending £70million to refurbish all homes in its stock with new kitchens and bathrooms and effective central heating by 2013.
