PLANS for a concert hall in Yate could still go ahead despite a slowdown in the building market.
Hopes are still alive that a multi-room arts venue will be built on the former Sea Stores site, on the junction of Kennedy Way and Link Road, as part of a housing development.
Taylor Wimpey has bought the land, a former Royal Navy storage base, and is in the process of compiling a detailed planning application for a new housing estate of between 250 and 300 homes.
The Gazette revealed last year how Yate Town Council was hoping funding, some of which will come from Taylor Wimpey and other monies from grants, would be used to create a stylish new entertainment venue.
Cllr Chris Willmore said: "The development of a venue for concerts and events, incorporating the town council’s desire to deliver a landmark building for Yate, at the Sea Stores site remains viable.
"Delays bringing forward development and changes in the property market have affected the planned funding stream.
"Revised sources are now being worked up to replace that element of the funding."
