MORE than 100 people are due to step out in memory of Berkeley toddler Sam Virgo this weekend.

A 10-mile trek from Thornbury to Berkeley takes place this Saturday in support of the Gazette’s campaign to raise £40,000 for Meningitis UK.

Two-year-old Sam Virgo was struck down by meningitis in March last year and died within hours, leaving his family and the whole Berkeley community devastated.

The walk this weekend will be the second walk in memory of Sam, organised by family friend Rose Hardwick to raise money for vaccine research.

Walkers are meeting at 11.45am at the Black Horse pub in Thornbury.

It is anticipated that all participants will have completed the 10 miles by 4pm where they will meet at the Boar’s Head Pub in Berkeley, where there will be a barbecue, music, raffle and auction.

The final of the charity karaoke competition at the Boar’s Head, which is also being held to support the Gazette’s campaign with Meningitis UK, is being held on Sunday, May 3 from 6pm.
