YATE will go global during an international festival this Saturday, July 11.

Bollywood dancers, Chinese musicians, Tae Kwon Do displays and Egyptian belly dancing will bring cultures together during the free family event at Yate Heritage Centre and St Mary’s Church.

The annual event is now the biggest of its kind in South Gloucestershire and organisers have drawn up a programme of events to reflect the multiculturalism of the area.

Community heritage officer David Hardill said: "There will be more acts and activities than ever before demonstrating the range of cultures and talent in the South Gloucestershire area.

"There will be some new treats this year including Indian Bollywood dancing from the 1980s through to the present day, Chinese musicians as well a range of Irish, Polish choral and drum music and not forgetting Egyptian belly dancing.

"There will be lots of things to do. You can take part in Tai Chi, salsa and Tae Kwon Do and also learn belly dancing and traditional Indian dance."

Visitors will be able to learn Chinese calligraphy, Rangoli art and the French game of Petanque at the heritage centre’s own court.

And anyone feeling peckish will be able to tuck into traditional delicacies from around the world including Indian and Chinese food.

The fun day (10.30am-4.30pm) is part of South Gloucestershire Council’s Engage programme to promote cultural awareness in the area.
